Taal Volcano’s eruption brought about ashfall and forced local residents within the 14-km danger zone to be displaced. The eruption also brought about earthquakes that damaged roads and houses. In order to help families affected by its eruption, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) and its media partners have pledged P2 million as an aid. The donation will be sent to relief centers in Batangas and Laguna provinces.
The announcement was made by TMP’s President-designate Astuushiro Okamoto during the Japanese brand’s annual media thanksgiving event. The media event was scaled down for 2020 to a simpler dinner gathering. The savings from the event formed part of the P2 million donation that was done in the name of the media attendees. This was also the first time that Okamoto made his first appearance after being appointed as TMP’s President-designate.
During the event, Okamoto also expressed what he felt about the Taal volcano eruption which happened during his first month in the country. He stated that the event was very unfortunate for many Filipinos.
He continues by saying that TMP decided to downscale the 2020 Media Thanksgiving Party and reallocated the funds in order to support the victims of the Taal volcano eruption. He concludes by thanking the media in joining the Japanese automotive brand in this cause.
The donation will be allocated for much-needed supplies to support the evacuees displaced by the volcano in various evacuation centers. These centers are located in the province of Batangas and in the City of Santa Rosa, which is assigned as the regional evacuation center of CALABARZON.
